How To Pick Out Your New AC System

How to determine what you have now?
Determine what you have
- Take pictures of your air handler model and serial number and unit. This is your inside unit
- Take pictures of your condenser model and serial number and unit. This is your outside unit
- Take a picture of your electrical panel and the two circuit breakers that serve the outside
and inside unit. - Share this with us and we can tell you the size and type of your existing air-conditioning
system

How to Pick the Right Brand and Model for You?
- With all manufacturers, systems are primarily broken into five groups. As you progress from
the most basic model to the system with the most features, what you gain is better comfort,
better air cleaning, quieter, more safety features and better energy efficiency. Let’s get
one thing straight right here and now…All air-conditioning systems that are properly
installed and maintained will last an average of 10-12 years with minimal issues. Here are
the five groups of models.- Standard efficiency – these are the most basic air-conditioning systems. They are
the least efficient and very basic. They operate at one speed. They are also the
least expensive - Efficiency plus – these are the same as standard efficiency models in features, but
are a little more energy efficient. Slightly more expensive than the basic models,
but a good choice if you are on a budget. - Enhanced comfort – just as the name implies, they add more comfort. They do this by
reducing humidity in your home better than the previous model. They are single speed
for the outside unit and variable speed on the inside. If they are coupled with the
proper thermostat you can set both temperature and humidity along with better air
cleaning by extending blower time on a slow speed. These systems are typically
priced in the middle of the model line-up. - Premium Comfort – By adding a two speed outside unit to the Enhanced Comfort system
previously described, you add a lower overall speed to add energy efficiency, better
air cleaning, better humidity control, quietness and added safety features that
protect your unit from failures. If your budget allows, these systems are a great
choice for comfort. - Ultimate Comfort and Energy Efficient – Do you want the absolute best comfort, air
cleaning, humidity control, quietness, safety features and energy efficiency? If so,
this is what you want. These systems are breed all amongst themselves. Inverter
drive, variable speed systems that will run from 0-100% and almost anywhere
in-between will give your home comfort like you’ve never had before. The ultimate
control of your comfort without you having to think about touching your thermostat.
- Standard efficiency – these are the most basic air-conditioning systems. They are

How to pick the right contractor to install your new AC System?
- Ask friends, neighbors and people you trust to make recommendations
- Check real online reviews
- Check the Better Business Bureau
- Interview the contractors and ask lots of questions
- Ask for referrals from the contractors
- Check the state and local licensing bureau for records
- Check insurances. Workers Compensation and General Liability
- Check state division of incorporation
- Check local business tax license
All contractors typically have the same business expenses and pay about the same price for
equipment, materials and labor. So, drastic difference in pricing should put up a red flag. A
reliable, knowledgeable contractor will take the time to educate you and help you make the right
decision. Remember, if it doesn’t feel right, it probable isn’t.

Cost of installation can vary quite a bit depending what type of equipment is being installed, where it is being
installed and if there are any special requirements needed. As an example, a small two ton unit being installed
in a garage next to the driveway where the air handler is in the garage on an existing platform and the
condensing unit sits right next to the garage on the ground would be on the less expensive side, where as a five
ton unit in a high rise building with the condensing unit being lifted to the roof with a crane and the air
handler is in an attic would be an installation towards the higher range. There are also many other variables to
be taken into consideration that can be discussed when looking at the individual installation. The price range
can be as low as $750 and can reach as high as $3,000.
